Kara Q. Lewis

Photography, drawing, painting, design

Welcome! My name is Kara. I am a photographer and freelance artist living in southern Oregon. I am also a proofreader and make POD (publish on demand) books. I do portrait and event photography, working solo as well as with my boyfriend. I do art photography which I exhibit in gallery shows and use for book cover designs and greeting cards. I draw characters and do illustrations in graphite and ink. I also paint portraits (medium: oil) and do design work, including book covers, greeting cards, and invitations. If you are interested in working with me, feel free to post a comment below or email me at karaclickhello@gmail.com. Thank you for checking out my blog portfolio!

Artist statment

I love art that captures beautiful light, has a story behind it, and is full of personality. I want these elements in my work whether I’m painting, drawing, or doing photography. Color, composition, and detail are also very important to me. When I'm doing my design work, I can spend way too long (because I enjoy it!) deciding what font and text color will fit the feel of a piece. Also, I don't know if it's because I'm near-sighted but details fascinate me. Mainly with my art photography, I find myself focusing up close to things. When I draw and paint, I like showing my pencil lines and brush strokes. Also, I prefer finishing a painting 'alla prima', in one sitting - wet on wet. It seems more real and reflects what I was experiencing in the moment. With portrait photography, I use natural light and want to capture a true and beautiful likeness of someone. My goal with all of my work is to be able to make something that connects with others and incorporates the things in life that make me happy. In addition to art, those things include: delicious food, movies, book covers, travel, and my family, as well as being in nature, hearing people's stories, people-watching, laughing, and reading all kinds of books (Tamora Pierce is my favorite author right now and non-fiction books about writing are so interesting to me). By enjoying the work that I do, I hope to pass that joy along to others.
